To support the on-going growth of our business, we are currently seeking a hands on, safety oriented and experienced Journeyperson Welder/Millwright to join our West Edmonton team. The ideal candidate is a hardworking team player who has in-depth knowledge of fabrication equipment and electrical systems. The purpose of this role is to provide maintenance and repair services to a variety of facilities and production equipment. This includes preventative maintenance, general equipment repairs, and major overhauls and rebuilds.


Key Responsibilities

  • Complete the appropriate paperwork, forms, reports, and work orders and ensure any parts and consumables used are documented
  • Read and interpret blueprints or welding process specifications
  • Operate manual or semi-automatic welding equipment to fuse metal segments using processes such as shielded metal arc welding (SMAW), gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW), gas metal arc welding (GMAW), flux-cored arc welding (FCAW), plasma arc welding (PAW), resistance welding and submerged arc welding (SAW)
  • Weld different types of metal in vertical up, overhead, gouging and hard facing positions
  • Structural assembly
  • Operate various equipment such as manual or semi-automatic flame-cutting equipment, brazing and soldering equipment, metal shaping machines such as brakes, shears, and other metal straightening, pressing, and bending machines
  • Repair worn parts of metal products by welding on extra layers
  • Align machines and equipment using hoists, jacks, hand tools, squares, rules, and micrometers
  • Assemble and install equipment using hand tools/power tools
  • Layout mounting holes using measuring instruments and drill holes with power drill
  • Replace defective parts on machinery/equipment or adjust clearances and alignment of moving parts
  • Dismantle machines/equipment using hammers, wrenches, crowbars, and other hand tools
  • Attach moving parts and subassemblies to basic assembly using hand tools/power tools
  • Move machinery and equipment using hoists, overhead crane, dollies, rollers etc.
  • Assemble machines/equipment and bolt, weld, rivet, or otherwise fasten them to foundation or other structures using hand tools/power tools
  • Conduct preventative maintenance and repair and lubricate machines and equipment
  • Help to find new ways or processes to complete the jobs in a more efficient manner
  • Provide high quality service to internal and external customers
  • Other duties as assigned

Core Competencies

  • Understanding of a wide range of welding processes

  • Ability to diagnose hydraulic systems and an understanding of automated systems, HMI, PLC’s

  • Experience in a heavy industrial and manufacturing environment with an understanding of operation

  • Knowledge of conveyors, various equipment, air compressors, air dryers, etc.

  • Mechanically inclined

  • Ability to work safely and maintain a clean work environment

  • Exceptional verbal and written English communication skills

  • Ability to mentor in a team setting

  • Ability to work in the absence of direct supervision and make recommendations based upon experience

  • Organizational and time management abilities

  • Basic computer knowledge and ability to complete reports as required

  • Must be a self-motivator, and able to make good decisions based upon the best and most relevant information at hand

  • Ability to prioritize urgency based on production requirements

  • Results-oriented team player with strong interpersonal skills

  • Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions

  • Ability to multi-task and meet objectives/deliverables

  • High standards for work, meticulous, with great attention to detail and strong analytical skills

  • Confident, resourceful, and highly motivated

  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs

Education and Experience

  • Journeyperson Welder Certificate

  • Journeyperson Millwright Certificate

  • Red Seal Certificate is an asset but not required

  • Minimum 7 years’ of both welding and millwright experience, ideally in a similar heavy industrial setting
