We are currently looking for an Employment Consultant to join our team of committed professionals. This full-time position within the Association is housed at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario’s Elm Street location in Sudbury. Under the leadership of the Program Manager, the Employment Consultant provides assistance, information, and counselling on all aspects of employment programs, job searching, education options, and career planning. This job is also responsible for ensuring optimum employment and training outcomes while maintaining YMCA values.

START DATE: As soon as possible


RATE OF PAY: $44,400 per year

HOURS: 40 per week


  • College diploma or University degree in social sciences or related field *for education completed outside of Canada, applicants are required to submit a WES with their application
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in personal and or vocational counselling
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Advanced computer skills
  • Crisis management skills
  • Superior presentation/facilitation skills
  • Ability to research and develop workshops and community presentations
  • Solid knowledge of community resources
  • Bilingualism in both official languages preferred
  • Current and Satisfactory Police Record Check with Vulnerable Sector


  • Determine program eligibility
  • Determine client’s profile and level of motivation
  • Separate stabilization needs from employment needs and refer to other support services as required
  • Meet with clients on a regular basis to ensure progress, provide support, and conduct follow-ups
  • Provide information in an individual or workshop setting regarding employment related topics
  • Lead clients in development of an action plan to acquire the necessary information, skills and or resources to achieve their career goals
  • Identify the appropriate job postings and refer clients
  • Maintain individual files to the standards set by funders and the YMCA
